6 Things to DO to improve Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is an increasing prevalence world wide. It is now also known as a lifestyle disease, which means if you can improve your lifestyle or dietary habits, you can control your blood glucose level well.

If you just got diagnosed with diabetes or long term diabetic but on medication, start changing now! It is not too late.

1. Mindful of your carb portion (Max 45g carb for meals, max 15g carb for snack)

2. Choose low GI (Glycaemic Index) foods. Carbs from Low GI foods gets released slowly, thus does not spike your glucose level. But you will still need to maintain a good carb portion.

3. Allow 3-5 hours gap. Don't nibble. Every time you eat something, your BGL increases.

4. Stay active. This activates more muscles to help lowering (use up) your glucose level.

5. Check you glucose to understand your body's response and keep you on track

6. Portion control. Follow Portion plate. This allows you to enjoy meals with family, find a balance between what you like and what your body needs.
